How Asbestos is Spread Around There are many sources of visible and microscopic asbestos in and around Illinois Beach State Park. Most of the asbestos contamination found at the Park was dumped on or off shore under the direction of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the Illinois EPA, and the Army Corps of Engineers.
